My Other Voices article (https://www.theunion.com/opinion/columns/milan-vodicka-gun-safety-is-all-about-the-system/) elicited more feedback and positive responses than anything I wrote. While I do not ordinarily write Letters to the Editor, this one deserves a footnote.

Visit https://www.bradyunited.org/ for information. During years when the assault weapons ban was in effect, there was 70% decline in assault weapons traced to crime. Read the recent NBC News report. Finally, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This language expression has created considerable debate about the Amendment’s intended scope. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution.

The issue of safety is paramount to every one of us, citizens of this country. We need politicians and legislators that reflect our values. In this regard, seriously consider voting for Elizabeth Betancourt for California Assembly.
