DWC had a wonderful meeting on September 7 with guest speaker Tracy Pepper of Community Beyond Violence. Tracy shared with us the work CBV is doing within our community to help men, women and children in dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual abuse. We learned that one of the reasons people don’t seek help is that they have pets they do not want to leave behind with their abuser. For this reason, CBV is currently looking to build kennels at their safe house for the pets of their clients. Lee Z. expressed an interest in DWC helping them to achieve this and will come back to a future meeting with more information.
I am happy to report that our members voted for Meri Mohr as our next Eleanor Roosevelt Award recipient. We are excited to present it to her at our luncheon on November 2 with guest speaker Monica Wilson, No. California Vice Chair of the Women’s Caucus. Sponsorship at the luncheon is needed and appreciated. Please contact Kate at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 760.846.6762 to discuss.
Next month DWC will meet on October 5 at the Northern Queen Trolley Junction Restaurant. Check in starts at 9:30 and the program starts at 10:00. Our guest speaker will be Sheriff Shannan Moon. Join us to hear about her experience as our new sheriff, only female sheriff for Nevada County, and all that the Sheriff’s Department is responsible for.
