In case you missed our luncheon on May 4th here is your recap. We hope you will be able to join us at our next event. At our annual Annette Gillette Luncheon we honored our three scholarship recipients. The Annette Gillette Memorial scholarship was awarded to Kacey Harmon. Kacey read us her essay which gave pertinent guidelines about how to identify fake news. In it she used the example of the mailer Congressman Doug LaMalfa sent out during the last election showing a falsified image of candidate Audrey Denny signing a pledge to Nancy Pelosi and Liberal Democrats. Our of 17 applicants for the Community Service award, two were elected: Fiona Duggan-Fuchs and Shelby Smith. Both spoke about the ways in which service has been integral to their lives. Keynote speaker Pascale Fosshoeller of YubaNet spoke to us about the differences between disinformation, misinformation and fair vs. balanced. She urged support for local media and the importance of alerting media to issues of concern.
