Call Governor Brown and urge him to sign SB 1100 into law!  Brown is always a wild card on gun bills and he needs to hear from you.  Call 916-445-2841.

SB 1100 raises the minimum age to purchase a long gun from a licensed firearms dealer from 18 to 21 in order to keep weapons out of potentially dangerous hands.

Persons under age 21 are disproportionally linked to crime, firearm homicides, and suicide attempts that result in death or treatment in a hospital.  Maturity, impulsive or reckless behavior, and responsibility vary greatly among 18-20 year olds.  This is recognized in other areas – those under age 21 cannot buy alcohol, rent a car or purchase a handgun – and the same age restriction should apply to long guns, including high-powered semiautomatic rifles –the weapon of choice for mass-shooters.
